Education of Workforce

Typical Concerns:

  • What is the literacy rate in Ghana?
  • How does the school system work?
  • What industry specific training is available for the workforce?

Solutions:

  • Literacy Rate

UNESCO statistics show the literacy rate in Ghana to be 67.2% of adults and 80.8% of youth (ages 15-24) as of 2010. The increase in youth literacy over the adult population reflects the positive education trends and the dramatic increase in student enrollment from 2002 to 2010.

  • School System

Wikipedia-Education Ghana outlines the school system as it now exists. It should be noted that, according to Wikipedia, about 15% of the student population attends private schools which reflect higher achievement scores.

  • Industry Specific Training

Major emphasis is being placed on training potential employees for growth segments, such as the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. The Advanced Information and Technology Institute (Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre for Excellence in ICT) and The Ghana Multimedia Incubator Centre were established to provide industry-specific training for the BPO industry. Similar training centers are being established for the oil and gas industry.
